Bangkok has one of the largest Chinatowns in the world. And if you stay there you’ll experience a vibrant neighborhood morning through night. In this post, you’re going to find the best hotels in Chinatown. From very affordable hostels to affordable classy heritage boutique hotels.
After Wat Mangkorn MRT subway station was built in Chinatown, hotels and hostels seemingly sprung up overnight. Where you can find many really good quality Thai heritage hotels for around USD 30 to USD 50 per night.
There are plenty of restaurants and hawker stands for delicious seafood, especially Thai and Chinese traditional cuisine. Many 7-Eleven convenience stores too to curb your 24-hour appetite.
Like I always say if you want to save cash on hotels in Bangkok it is better to book further away from the city center.
I didn’t always think that way. About 10 to 15 years ago I would always recommend people stay within central Bangkok. But today hotel prices in those areas went up. Not saying that Thai hotels in general are expensive when compared to Western countries or East Asian country hotels.
But will you save a lot more money? And how’s the quality of hotels in Bangkok’s Chinatown?

Where is Bangkok’s Chinatown?
Why Stay There?
I know many travelers are looking to stay in heritage-style boutique hotels. They want to enjoy the history of a neighborhood and feel like they’ve gone back in time. Yet not so far back that there’s no air conditioning and toilets inside their room. I hear you.
Bangkok’s Chinatown is located in the older yet charming Samphanthawong District of Bangkok.
This is a foodies’ paradise. Especially at night on Yaowarat Road when the sidestreets are closed off so street food vendors can operate.
Many good quality Thai hotels with affordable prices. Thrifty backpackers can find decent accommodations there too.
Much closer to the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Khao San Road, and the Chao Praya River.
It is generally less hectic and slower than the fast pace in central Bangkok.

Travel up and down or across the Chao Praya River at the nearby Ratchawongse Pier.
West of Bangkok’s Chinatown lies the Chao Praya River. Northeast about 1.5km is the Grand Palace with Wat Praew Kaow and the impressive Wat Pho with its reclining Buddha. Far to the east is the hustle and bustle of central Bangkok. You can easily travel with the Blue Subway line with a station close to the center of Chinatown.
I like to visit this area because of its slow urban pace. There are many fingers of alleyways to explore and wander around. When my feet get tired there are so many cafes to sit down and rest for a bit.

And I know many soulful travelers want to experience old historic charms in a city. Bangkok’s Chinatown has many old temples tucked away into corners between buildings. With quaint little shops around for many generations selling food and drink to things you’ve never seen before.
It’s a Chinatown so you will find many restaurants selling Chinese dim sum, noodles, and rice dishes.
When you feel like reversing gears and checking out the shopping centers and nightlife Bangkok is famous for, just take the subway train. It’ll get you there in no time.
So if that’s your travel style and you want to save some money on hotel stays, Bangkok’s Chinatown is right for you.

My Top Bangkok Chinatown Hotels
To start I’d like to recommend a couple of hotels along the main vein of Bangkok’s Chinatown called Yaowarat Road. These hotels put you in the heart of everything the neighborhood has to offer, food, shopping, and proximity to the subway station and access to the riverboat pier.
All hotels listed below have free internet Wi-Fi access, daily bottled water refills, and refrigerators. Plus water kettle, tea and coffee packets. Some hotels provide bathrobes and umbrellas for guest use. And yes every room has an air conditioner. I wouldn’t recommend staying at a hotel without one.
Yaowarat Road Hotels (The Heart of Chinatown)
If you want to stay at a hotel right in the heart of Chinatown and the great food and street scene, Yaowarat Road is where you want to be. There are three hotels listed directly below for you to consider.
This is one of the most well-rounded hotels you’ll find in Chinatown because it’s one of the largest. Guests staying at Hotel Royal Bangkok have pool and fitness room access.
Rooms with no windows are cheaper here and cost around USD 60 per night. In contrast, rooms with city views cost around USD 10 to USD 15 more. Certainly one of the most modern hotels along Yaowarat Road.
If you’re traveling with a large family and prefer a larger room you’ll find it here.
A perfect hotel for foodies because around 6 pm the street vendors and restaurants start spilling out onto the streets.
This is another one of the largest and perhaps oldest hotels in Chinatown. But it has been updated of course to compete with the newer hotels nearby. That said the rooms are still a little dated. The building also has a mini-mall in the lobby and a Starbucks in front.
As an older building the rooms inside Grand China Princess are larger than average. Standard rooms are around 26 sq. meters and cost about USD 70.
The Grand China Princes has many room types though so of course the larger the room or the better view it has the price goes up a bit. For example, a room with a river view will set you back USD 100.
All guests at the Grand China Princes also have access to the swimming pool and fitness center. Though be sure to check out the rooftop bar for an amazing view of Chinatown below.
I mentioned earlier that Chinatown has many heritage-style hotels. If you want to stay at a hotel with an old-world ambiance but with contemporary facilities then I highly recommend Shanghai Mansion right on Yaowarat Road.
Now the standard rooms here average in size about 27 sq. meters, which is good. I know this sounds crazy but I like the blackout curtains as it helps with the soundproofing from the outside noise. You’ll see that the interior design of the rooms is high quality and they pay attention to detail.
This stylish boutique hotel will wow you as you enter the hotel’s lobby. I like this hotel because it’s clean, and the hotel staff are friendly and professional.
So this hotel has no swimming pool or fitness center. And the price is kind of high compared to other hotels in the area. A standard superior room at Shanghai Mansion costs around USD 80 per night.
Best Hotels “A Little” Outside Bangkok’s Chinatown
No doubt Chinatown can get quite busy and with all that busyness there’s noise. You want someplace more quiet, yet don’t mind a short walk to Chinatown. I hear you.
Here’s a small selection of Thai-Chinese-style boutique hotels for you to consider. They’ve got great reviews. And believe it or not most are priced around USD 50 for 2 guests! Though rooms will be small.
This terrific little-budget hotel gives off those days of old speakeasy vibe. Standard rooms are on the small side, about 20 sq. meters, and cost around USD 40 per night.
The beds here are quite comfortable for the price, clean room, and a clean bathroom with a modern feel. You can’t ask for more for such an affordable hotel near Bangkok’s Chinatown.
But the hotel is well managed, the rooms are clean and the hotel staff are professional and friendly. I highly recommend this little hotel and I think you guys will like it.
Here’s a cute little hostel near Bangkok’s Chinatown with an owner on the premises. I’ve been recommending this to folks traveling on a budget for a while and it never disappoints.
This charismatic property provides guests with that long ago feeling of Thai Chinese charm. There are so many details and furniture inside that’ll make you feel you’ve gone back in time.
There are a total of only 5 rooms so if you wish to stay here I highly recommend booking far in advance. The standard rooms cost about USD 40 a night. Even though there’s no swimming pool and fitness center you’ve got the ambiance.
I know many solo travelers are looking for a no-frills, yet clean and cool affordable hostel. And the location of Luk Hostel can’t be beaten. Located parallel to Yaowarat Road, tucked away in a lane filled with wholesale goods.
Luk Hostel has many types of room types. From female and male-only dormitories. To small 9 sq. meter single standard rooms. All for USD 15 a night.
Around the hostel are many places to grab traditional Thai foods like noodles and stir-fries.
Just a perfect all-around hostel to stretch out a long stay in Bangkok.
I hope you have a chance to visit Bangkok’s Chinatown even if you don’t plan to stay around there. It’s an incredible place to experience Thai Chinese culture.

Recently a good friend of mine asked for hotel recommendations for his first trip to Bangkok, Thailand. He wanted a decent-quality hotel. Doesn’t want to spend a lot of money. A nice buffet breakfast included in the room rate would be nice, but not important.
I had good news and bad news for him.
The bad news is it would’ve been an easier request 15 to 20 years ago. Today Thai hotel prices in central Bangkok went up. And you have to pay extra for a buffet breakfast.
The good news is even though prices are higher, Bangkok hotel prices are still more affordable compared to Western and East Asian hotels. However, if you want decent quality Bangkok hotels without spending a lot of money, there is a way.
And the way to do that is to book hotels outside of central Bangkok.
But not so far out that you will be too far away from places that make the city so interesting and fun.
There’s this neighborhood called Huai Khwang that is by the edge of central Bangkok that I recommend. Whether this will be your first time in Bangkok or you’ve been here a few times. I think Huai Khwang is perfect mainly because it is not touristy. Hotels are more affordable and restaurants in this area are priced for locals.

Huai Khwang is a district sitting right above central Bangkok. Sandwiched between Chatuchack Weekend Market to the northwest and the central Sukhukumvit/Asoke junction directly south. It is what I refer to as a locals’ local area where the working class live, eat, and hang out with friends and family.
On the main Huai Khwang intersection there are MRT subway entry/exits where many locals use to get to and from work. And to travel to other parts of the city as well.

If it is convenient for you I highly recommend traveling to central Bangkok via subway. The Huai Khwang station is the subway’s Blue Line which means you can easily travel to Terminal 21 Mall and Chatuchak Weekend Market in around 15 minutes. Both are also transit points for the Sky Train.
The area around Huai Khwang is comprised of residential apartment blocks and tall condominiums. And that means there are many restaurants and shops nearby to feed and entertain local Thais.
A brand new Chinatown is also in the area where a new generation of Chinese immigrants moved in and set up many restaurants, particularly Mala Hotpot restaurants.
There is a seedy aspect to the Huai Khwang neighborhood in the form of brothels. You wouldn’t know it is there unless you look for it. But whatever happens inside never spills outside.
Huai Khwang is indeed a family-friendly neighborhood. Though it wouldn’t hurt to keep a close eye on your husband when he says he’s going out to buy a carton of milk.
Huai Khwang is Almost Active 24 Hours at Night
One of the many things I like about this neighborhood is the amount of restaurants that open late through the night. Some Chinese restaurants are open 24 hours for hotpot and dim sum. And there’s also a cafe I like that opens 24 hours called Oasis Coffee.
My Top Huai Khwang Hotel Picks
So there are a handful of 3 star to 5 star hotels in central Huai Khwang, located along Ratchadapisek Road (Ratchada Road for short). Then you can find most 2 star to 3 star hotels on Pracharatbamphen Road and this is where you find hotels going for USD 30 per night, not including taxes and breakfast.

I’ll start with the two biggest popular hotels in Huai Khwang. Hotels along Ratchadapisek Road are more expensive but not overpriced in my opinion. While hotels along Pracharatbumphen Road are more on the budget level.
Okay, this is the only true 5-star hotel in Huai Khwang.
Once you walk through the front doors of Swissotel Bangkok Ratchada and enter the massive lobby you will certainly know you’re inside a classy hotel. It’s one of the oldest hotels in the area. But it has gone through several upgrades and renovations throughout the years.
Because it is an older property it also means the rooms are larger than today’s newly built hotels. Updated rooms mean flat-screen televisions and USB power ports. Most importantly a super comfortable mattress and pillows.
And since this is a Thai hotel in the 5-star category guests can enjoy working out in the massive fitness center and outdoor swimming pool. If you can book a room that fits your budget with a buffet breakfast included, I would take the offer. Because the food choices offered are worth it.
Standard rooms here cost around USD90 per night without taxes and a buffet breakfast. However, if the timing is right you can find room rates that do include breakfast.
The Emerald Hotel is also on the main road of Ratchadapisek across from Swissotel Bangkok. Just like its rival 5-star hotel, the Emerald Hotel was built around the early 1990s. This means that rooms are larger than most newer hotels built recently.
There are also swimming pools and a fitness center for hotel guests. Even a billiard room which is not often something you would find inside a Thai hotel.
One of the reasons why I’m writing about Emerald Hotel is because it’s affordable. But some would argue it’s not a true 5-star hotel. Mainly because the rooms are not modern and spiffy. And there are signs of wear and tear.
I just searched now and found a room for USD70 not including taxes and breakfast. So if you want to stay in a hotel with a large room and numerous guest amenities you might want to consider Emerald Hotel.
This is the main reason why Emerald Hotel gets an honorable mention. Just be sure to read the reviews before deciding to book.
This popular hotel in Huai Khwang is located 250 meters walk from Huai Khwang intersection and Huai Khwang MRT subway station entry/exit #1. It might be hard to find since it’s a short distance on a side street, just off Pracharatbumphen Soi 5.
When you see a 7-Eleven convenience store on the corner just make a left turn and walk about 50 meters and you will see the Amaranta Hotel on the right-hand side.
Again this hotel was built about 20 years ago. So there are larger rooms at very affordable prices. The rooms have been updated not recently, but there are tablets to control room lights.
There is a rooftop pool and bar with a good view over Huai Khwang. Plus fitness center is complete with a sauna and steam room. These are not something found in most newer hotels along central Sukhumvit unless you’re willing to pay more money. Standard rooms at Amaranta Hotel cost around USD70.
The Palazzo Hotel is another one of the larger hotels along Ratchapidsek Road. Located just right across a small street from the Emerald Hotel. A standard room costs around USD50, which is around 30 sq. meters.
This hotel does have an outdated design but I think most would agree the most important thing is cleanliness. As a larger hotel, it is well maintained. Though surprisingly there is no swimming pool or fitness center.
The only real thing going for this hotel is its location. It’s certainly worth checking out though if there are no other options in the area.
This hotel is located same street as the Palazzo Hotel and about 300 meters from the main Ratchadapisek Road. Also in the USD50 price range. Though standard rooms are slightly larger and since it is newer than Palazzo Hotel rooms are more updated.
Also, there is no swimming pool or fitness room as well. No frills but again if you want to find a clean cheapish room to stay in Huai Khwang this is a good option.
Built in 2019 the Ibis Styles Ratchada Hotel is the newest and most popular budget hotel in Huai Khwang. And it’s in a super location, about a 150-meter walk to Huai Khwang MRT subway station entry/exit #3.
The lobby is spacious and quite modern. There’s a small play area for children which is a good touch.
As a newer hotel, it means rooms are compact, about 25 sq. meters. But there are 29 and 30 sq. meter room options that don’t cost much extra. There’s no swimming pool but there is a small fitness center.
This hotel is slightly further away but not by much. It’s in the part of Huai Khwang just right where the new Chinatown begins along Pracharatbumphen Road.
MeStyle Garage Hotel is certainly unique as it has a car theme. I’ve stayed in the standard rooms before and I have to admit the room design is too much. And a bit too dark for my taste. Mind you I’ve only stayed one time. So other rooms could be brighter or less cluttered.
There is no swimming pool or fitness center. But if you love hanging outside along rooftops it’s got a nice space to chill out and relax with a beer.
Standard rooms at MeStyle Garage Hotel are around USD50 without taxes and breakfast.
This is where we get into the USD40 price range. Which means rooms are smaller. There are no swimming pools. And in certain instances further away from Huai Khwang MRT subway stations.
This is an example of a super affordable hotel just 250 meters from Huai Khwang subway station. It’s also directly opposite the 4-star Amaranta Hotel.
CMYK was recently renovated in 2023 and kept prices the same pre-renovation. Rooms are of course small, about 20 sq. meters. 30 square meter rooms cost slightly more and in my opinion if you can find one for the right price get the bigger room.
Currently one of the best budget hotels in the area.
So there you have it, a selection of recommended hotels in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district. As you can see the room rates are not overpriced. Like I always say to people planning to visit Bangkok. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on hotels to have an amazing holiday in Thailand.

It’s been a long while since I’ve written a hotel review in Thailand. So I’m super excited to share my experience staying at AWA Resort Koh Chang.
My wife and I were planning to drive from Bangkok to Koh Chang for a week. And her friend from the island said she has this great recommendation of a 4 star hotel right on Kai Bae Beach. She said we definitely needed to check out AWA Resort.
It’s located on the south end of Kai Bae Beach which means it’ll be a lot quieter. And we do enjoy our quiet. Plus her recommendations were never wrong so far.
She was the one that told us about Emerald Cove Koh Chang which I reviewed a few years back. And she wasn’t wrong then so she knew we would like definitely love AWA Resort.

I also did my own research and found lots of positive reviews on the internet. So I booked a deluxe room on Agoda.com website for 3 nights at AWA Resort. We went there during late March, which was still high season. We paid $80USD per night which included breakfast. And thats not a bad price for a four star beach hotel on Koh Chang.
Remember to Book a Room on the Main Property
I want to add that if you want a room with a gorgeous view of the hotel’s swimming pool or the beach, then DO NOT book a room on the hillside. You see, AWA Resort has an annex building across the road where the hotel’s car park is also located. It’s not a far walk and the hillside room has a beautiful garden.
But if you’re going to stay at resort on the beach. Then you might as well stay on the beach side. Even then while checking prices recently, hillside rooms at the AWA Resort are only slightly cheaper than rooms on beach side. Pay a little more and you’ll stay at a better part of AWA Resort.

The resort is located right on the southern end of Kai Bae beach. Which is on the west side of Koh Chang island. During my three day stay at AWA I enjoyed swimming at this beach. You have to go down some steps to get to the water.
Every time I get into the water in certain beaches I hate stepping on sharp rocks and coral. Good news is at AWA Resort I didn’t have that problem. There is a reef further ahead where you can do snorkeling. But overall I didn’t come across jagged rocks. I’ve got sensitive feet so it’s a legitimate complaint.
Amazing Architecture
When you step inside for the very first time through the doors of AWA Resort your jaws will drop. The hotel’s lobby is really high. The walls are white with Chinese motifs throughout. It’s a very beautiful hotel with so much open space.
While checking in we were given a welcome drink, which is a nice touch. We also got a huge basket of fruit! Just joking. Though you can help yourself. I did and the staff never minded. Just leave some for other guests.
I just couldn’t help but get good vibes about staying at this amazing resort in Koh Chang. I’m a hotel exploring fanatic and could not wait to see our room.

We booked a deluxe room for $80 USD per night. Which included breakfast. We were shown our room which was on the fourth floor. We passed by some rooms on the ground floor that have easier access to the swimming pools. Next time we stay at AWA we should definitely see if we can get those rooms.
I’m sure it’ll cost more but I’m curious to see how much more.
Here’s my only gripe, there’s a big wall but the flatscreen television is tiny compared to the overall space.

We were so impressed with our deluxe room at AWA Resort. It was about 50 square meters with this big bathroom, complete with a bath tub. There were also complimentary bath salts to give yourself a spa treatment. I did every single night before bed. Heaven I tell you.
Everything you needed for a perfect stay was inside. Some beach towels, bathrobes, an electronic safe, coffee and tea maker and a refrigerator with complimentary water. Every evening housekeeping, knocks on guest doors with tiny Thai dessert to hand out.

There’s free Wi-Fi and it worked well even though my room was a little far from the router. Yes, I do check. As a digital nomad I always check and see how many routers there are near where ever I stay. Judging from what I saw on the floor I stayed on I think every guest room should get proper internet coverage.
You know I always thought the mattress at home is the best. Until I went around staying at different 4 and 5 star hotels. AWA Resort mattress was really comfortable. And the pillows were so soft it cradled my head like a fluffy cloud.
Besides the small flat screen television, another thing that bothered me was the amount of lighting inside the room. The brightest light source was the reading light by the bed. But the light on the desk was really dim. Maybe it’s a way to dissuade guests from working?
If so, it worked.
Breakfast Time
If you booked a room with breakfast, serving time starts 7:00am to 10:30am. It’s a buffet breakfast and it’s served in a cool looking restaurant called the Spoon that overlooks Kai Bae beach.
The Spoon has these super high ceilings just like the lobby. Though it only seats 120 inside. But no worries, theres plenty of tables and seats at The Sala, which is another on-site restaurant serving Thai food.
My wife and I had our breakfast at the Spoon the entire time we stayed there. And we certainly enjoyed all the food served inside. They’ll make pancakes and waffles fresh. There’s an egg station too. And of course a section with Thai breakfast with noodles and porridge.
I also noticed there are numerous kitchen staff from the Philippines. Because Filipinos can speak English fluently and I suppose management brought them on board to take care of English speaking tourists. Good move AWA.
You can also enjoy breakfast near this beach. But it’ll be a short walk.
AWA Resort Koh Chang is an amazing hotel. Can you believe it’s priced under $100USD. For us ordinary humans that’s reasonable. As of writing I see a beachfront room for $75USD a night with taxes included on Agoda.com. That’s cheaper then when I booked in March and it’s a better room.
I’ve stayed at several hotels around Kai Bae Beach in Koh Chang and I have to say, AWA Resort is the best, in terms of quality, service and price.

5 Reasons Why You Should Stay at a Hotel Near Hua Hin Beach
Hua Hin’s beach lines the central section of the city. By choosing a hotel by the beach area you can easily visit nearby attractions in Hua Hin such as their famous night bazaar.
For a small city, Hua Hin has a pretty big traffic problem. With very few pedestrian crosswalks in between. By staying at a hotel right on Hua Hin beach you don’t need to worry about crossing and waiting for long traffic lights.
Lots of hotels on Hua Hin Beach provide free shuttle service for guests to travel to nearby attractions such as the Cicada Market, Bluport Mall,and other points of interest near the hotels. So no need to rely on your own transportation or pay for tuk-tuks that charge 150THB one way.
Even though there are many international 5-star hotels located right on Hua Hin beach you don’t need to spend big money. There are many very affordable hotels right next to the mega hotels that share the same beach. If you can afford the big-name hotels then go for it. You won’t regret it.
Hua Hin beach is on the eastern seaboard so you’ll be able to enjoy a beautiful sunrise in the morning. Which is the best reason of all in my book to stay right on the beach!
I Highly Recommend Staying at a Hotel on Hua Hin Beach Between Hua Hin Night Market and Cicada Market
Hua Hin has a long stretch of sandy beach with many hotels right on the beachfront, from 5 stars to cozy boutique hotels.
The best area of the beach with hotels is between Hua Hin Night Market down to Khao Takiab (เขาตะเกียบ) translated as Chopstick Hill. Though Monkey Hill would be a more proper name as the area is full of cheeky monkeys that will rummage through your bags if given the chance.
But a few of the hotels on my top 5 Hua Hin beach hotels are just slightly outside of that particular area. Not by much though.
Matter of fact, one of my favorite hotels in Hua Hin by the beach and very close to Khao Takiab is number one on my list. It’s one of the best hotels in Hua Hin and is recommended for your first visit.
I’ve always been a fan of Amari-branded hotels and never had any problems at any of their properties. So when I found out there’s an Amari hotel property in Hua Hin by the beach I was excited to stay there. Granted it’s a bit of a walk to the beach. The Amari Hua Hin Hotel on Khao Takiab Beach
Technically the Amari Hua Hin is on Khao Takiab which is the southern end of Hua Hin Beach. They even have an awesome clubhouse by the beach where you can order drinks, and food and just chill out by the swimming pool overlooking the ocean.
When I stay at the Amari Hua Hin I usually book their Deluxe Pool View King room. It’s spacious and clean. I particularly like the view of the awesome massive swimming pool in the center of the hotel property. You can get a deluxe room with a view of the pool for around 3000THB per night with taxes.

Affordable large rooms with a great ambiance. I did a review of Escape Hotel Hua Hin a few years back. I’ve been back there a few times ever since, especially when they have price drops on their hotel rooms during low seasons which is a great bargain.
The Escape is still one of the nicest hotels with a short walking distance to the beach and highly recommended. When I’m there I usually book the double rooms on the second floor for 3000THB per night. It’s a great bargain.
There’s even a free shuttle to take you down to Hua Hin’s night market. And they’ll even pick you up for a free return trip at a designated time. The Escape is one of the best affordable beach hotels in Hua Hin I highly recommend it.

If you like pets or you’re traveling with your furry friends, the Ibis Hotel Hua Hin is the best pet-friendly hotel by the beach. Whenever my wife and I travel to Hua Hin with one of our cats we always prefer staying at the Ibis Hua Hin.
There are not many hotels on the beach in Hua Hin that allow pets. Thankfully Ibis is one hotel that does.
Granted their rooms are the smallest out of the five hotels reviewed here. But it’s very clean and the property throughout is well maintained.
However I want to add if you’re given the option to purchase breakfast I recommend passing it. I don’t think it’s an added value. There are many places to eat near the hotel within a short walk.

With the Hilton brand name, you’ll know this will be one of the best beach hotels in Hua Hin. This 5-star resort is practically right on the beach. The beach is 90 meters from the hotel but with their amazing swimming pool, it’ll be hard to decide if you’ll want to stay by the pool or swim in the ocean.
The Hilton Hua Hin is not cheap. But not expensive either by international standards. Their King Classic Ocean view rooms are only 4000THB per night with taxes. That’s a real bargain for a 5-star hotel in the center of Hua Hin’s beach.
5. Avani Hua Hin Resort and Village – 4 Star Hotel

The Avani Hua Hin is another awesome hotel by the beach in Hua Hin. Again, the swimming pool at this resort’s main attraction. I’ve spent many days just soaking in the pool. Some really fun memories.
Yet this is another hotel by the beach only 90 meters from the hotel and affordable too. For 3000THB per night with taxes I’ve stayed in the Avani Deluxe Room.
The Avani Hua Hin is practically one of the newest hotels in central Hua Hin, built-in 2016. I especially recommend this hotel if you’re traveling with children. Your kids will love the swimming pool and the fun kid’s club on premises.
These are the best beach hotels to stay in Hua Hin for the very first time. And if you consider the prices are quite affordable too, especially 5-star hotels like the Hilton Hua Hin. And if you’re on a budget you should consider staying at the Escape Hotel Hua Hin.
But whichever hotel you choose on this list I’m sure you’re going to enjoy your holiday in Hua Hin for your very first special visit.

A Taste of the Beach Life at Baan Sukhita in Chanthaburi, Thailand
Thailand has a lot of beaches. Some good. And some not so good. Everyone, including yours truly that is planning to stay indefinitely in Thailand is always out in the search of the best beaches as a side trip from Bangkok, either for a day or more. And that’s what we found at Baan Sukhita in Chanthaburi, Thailand.
A few weeks ago for the very first time I visited Chao Lao Beach where I made a review of Maldive Beach Resort. While driving around I came across Ao Yang by chance.
Ao Yang is a bay, so not a beach even if there is a small one. “Ao” in Thai “อ่าว” pronounced àao with a low tone means bay. But theres a small beach lined with restaurants and a parking area for visitors to the beach and restaurant customers.

There are several hotels and guesthouses along Ao Yang. But we chose to stay at Baan Sukhita because we had already seen it while driving through when we last visted Chao Lao Beach. And their sea view rooms left a good impression on us which is why my wife and I decided to go back check it out.

Baan Sukhita is just a simple hotel. But in a good way. It’s not a fancy place for the fancy folks that enjoy high tea in the noon overlooking the bay. It’s ideal for any visitor looking to get away from Bangkok just for a little while to reset and rest. Which is just right up our alley.

Baan Sukhita has sea view rooms just 50 or so meters from the beach with a picket fence and the road in between.
There’s no fitness center. No Swimming pool. A row of beach chairs, benches and tree trunks shaped into chairs with a lovely view of the bay from the property lawn.
No hotel bar with happy hours. So be sure to stock up on your favorite beers and snacks as there are no full convenience stores in Ao Yang.

But there is a cool tree hammock! Just a single hammock is slung between two beautiful trees. Now I can imagine this hammock wouldn’t be enough during the weekends with more guests staying at Baan Sukhita.
Since my wife and I stayed during the weekday we were pretty much alone. So I had the hammock all to my self!
Baan Sukhita has 21 Rooms With 3 Room Categories:
Standard Nature View – 20 m² / 2 Adults and 2 Kids 0-11 age
Sea View – 24 m² / 2 Adults and 2 Kids 0-11 age
Triple Deluxe – 32 m² / 3 Adults 2 Kids 0-11 age
Room #106 with a sea view. Our home sweet home, well at least for 4 night…
On this trip I booked a sea view room and stayed in room #106. Per night we paid 1500THB ($55USD). The property was renovated back in 2014 and well maintained. The room still looks new with a nice comfortable queen sized bed, a flat screen television plus some chairs, a mini fridge stocked with 2 bottles of water daily and a small work table.

The bathroom has a shower room and the fixtures looked brand new. Though I believe the bathroom would benefit with a ventilation fan to to keep the air moving out.

I also think the room would really benefit with more light fixtures. At night with all the existing room lights turned on the room was still too dim especially near the area where the work table was placed.
The Wi-Fi was not stable but I could always piggy back off the hotspot from my phone to my laptop computer. Television has a dozen Thai channels and a movie channel with Hollywood hits but of course it’s dubbed in Thai.

The Breakfast
Breakfast which was included with our room rate at Baan Sukhita is served from 7am to 9am. There’s not a lot of breakfast variety but understandably so. It’s a small hotel property which receives most of its guests on weekends.
No sense to cook up a bunch of food which will just go to waste with not enough people to eat it.

It’s not exactly buffet style but if you want to order more food the hotel kitchen staff were more than happy to cook another set. They even offered to make an omelette just to change up the menu a bit as we stayed for 4 nights. Staff were very nice at Baan Sukhita I have to add.
Khao Tom Moo Gung – A Thai style rice soup with minced pork and shrimp normally eaten for breakfast…
What they do serve is sufficiently enough. Sunny side eggs, some boiled ham and chicken sausage with toast is the western option. Khao Tom Moo Gung is the Thai breakfast of choice served with lots of fresh shrimp and minced pork was my favorite and I had it every morning with American style breakfast.
Things to See Near Baan Sukhita
To really explore Chanhtaburi and the area surrounding Baan Sukhita you’ll need to have a car or hire a driver. It’s the only way to get a glimpse of the natural beauty that surrounds Baan Sukhita. The area is mainly popular for beaches and there are a handful to enjoy. But I just want to mention that because these beaches are less traveled or visited you will find trash along the sand.
Lots of signs with English pointing to places of interest. But having Google Maps to get around was helpful…

Ao Krathing – This beach is owned by the army. You have to walk down to the beach, about 150 meters down a man made stone pathway. But coming back up could be tiring. Not a far drive from Baan Sukhita.
Hat Chao Lao – This beach is the nicest with long stretch of sand and not as much rocks in the surf. Great for swimming. Not a lot of resorts on this beach still quiet even on weekends. Drive time to Chao Lao Beach’s eastern tip is about 20 minutes.
Hat Laem Sing – Similar to Hat Chao Lao but a lot more busy during the weekends. Drive time from Baan Sukhita to Laem Sing takes about 10 minutes.
Recommended Area to Visit in Chanthaburi
Chanthaburi Waterfront – I haven’t been all over the city of Chanthaburi but I came across this little section of town near a river. It’s a nice little place to visit, explore and perhaps enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the many cafés by the river. A recommended side trip while staying over in Baan Sukhita.

The Takeaway
I like Baan Sukhita a lot for the ambiance and environment. If you want to travel Thailand, relax at a beach with not ton of people around than this is the type of place you’ll like and enjoy. I certainly did.
But you also have to have some expectations as well. Ao Yang is not a very developed. There’s a row of seafood restaurants along the bay where the locals go to enjoy freshly caught seafood right off the bay. And that’s all there is in the immediate vicinity of Baan Sukhita Hotel.
There’s absolutely nothing to do at night. Matter of fact the area is deserted at night except for the seafood restaurant owners and workers that live nearby. There are many dogs in Ao Yang area too and from my experience they are friendly. Especially when they get to know you. But if you’re afraid best to avoid them.

During the day you can lounge on the hammock or take a dip in the beach and explore Chanthaburi by car. But this is the kind of rest and the sort of thing I enjoy. And enjoy I did at Baan Sukhita Hotel. I highly recommend staying at this nice little beach hotel in Chanthaburi, Thailand.
A Cozy 3 Star Hotel on Chao Lao Beach in Chanthaburi, Thailand
If you’re looking for a beach getaway side trip from Bangkok, look no further than Chanthaburi(จันทบุรี, pronounced Jantaburee) province. By car you’ll find one of the nicest and cleanest beaches southeast of Bangkok called Chao Lao(หาดเจ้าหลาว), about 250km away, past Pattaya and Rayong.
Chao Lao Beach may not be as famous as the other well known beaches in Thailand, but I really do believe that one day it will be another popular sought after beach destination in Thailand. And to date there are not a lot of hotels and resort on Chao Lao Beach in Chanthaburi.
Finding a quiet spot on Chao Lao Beach wouldn’t be difficult at all.

But I’ve got just the right place to stay right on the beach in Chanthaburi called Maldive Beach Resort. This 3 star hotel right on Chao Lao beach is just a 3 hours and 30 minute drive from central Bangkok via tollway. Which is not too shabby for some clean water along a nice quiet stretch of beach on the Gulf of Thailand.

I highly recommend Maldive Beach Resort for families looking to spend time on a beautiful quiet beach. Because the rooms at this resort are very spacious. So if you’re traveling with an extended family and looking for a nice hotel with spacious rooms around Chanthaburi then Maldive Beach Resort should be considered.

During this trip I booked 2 room types at the Maldive Beach Resort: 1) Standard and 2) Family Standard.
Photos of the room you see above are of the standard rooms and the only difference between standard and the family standard rooms are the extra beds of course for more guests.
The beds in our room were comfortable and the air conditioners looked new and kept our rooms nice and frosty. Don’t expect much television channels. But you have a terrific view of the beach at least.
So all of the rooms we stayed in had a balcony. However, as of writing Maldive Beach Resort is going through some cosmetic renovations. So the balcony view below is not too impressive as of date. I expect that once they are finished there will be some sort of garden view below.
Not much of a view out of the standard and family room balcony but should be better after renovation…
I had a glimpse of the beach front villa and it looked really nice. If I ever plan on staying at Maldive Beach Resort again I’ll probably book the beach front villa.
Chao Lao Beach at Maldive Beach Resort
The main reason why you’d want to stay at Maldive Beach Resort is… well for the beach, right? The beach is called Chao Lao. The waters are far away enough from Bangkok so it’s clean and clear. The sand is white and soft on the feet.
While I was out on a morning swim I saw resort staff clearing the beach of debris. Which is a good sign that they care about their property and environment.

It’s not a private beach but due to the lack of resorts on the beach it certainly seems like it. There are not a lot of people, particularly tourists in the area and that’s probably due to the lack of direct transportation from Bangkok and other cities.

So you’re going to need your own set of wheels either self drive or hired driver. But the beach is worth it plus the fact that Maldive Beach Resort’s room rates are not expensive. Sure, you’re in the middle of nowhere. Which is why you’ll need a car to get around Chanthaburi on your own because the location around the hotel is beautiful like we discovered on our own.
Water quality is seasonal of course. And according to the staff at Maldive Beach Resort, the beach water is at its best from late May through late March.
I went there late January and the water was beautiful and clear with no jellyfish whatsoever.
One of the Most Family and Most Definitely Kid Friendly Hotel in Chanthaburi
I would recommend Maldive Beach Resort if you’re traveling with kids mainly for the kiddie pool. It’s got this awesome spiral pool slide connected. As a fully grown man I can say I probably had more fun sliding down it than kids.
There’s also nice little pool for adults as well with nice chairs to lounge on nearby. But to be honest we spent most of our pool time at the kiddie pool.
There’s no fitness center with cardio and weights but I suppose you can always run on the beach or swim laps for exercise.

Breakfast and Dinner at the Maldive Beach Resort
As I mentioned the area around Maldive Beach is a quiet. There are a few other resorts nearby but not much. There’s a 7-Eleven about a kilometer walk away. There’s a little hotel café on premise with a cozy space to hang out.
It seemed like this hotel includes breakfast in every room category. And breakfast is served at Maldive Beach Resort’s fresh and newly renovated restaurant from 7am to 10:30am.
They don’t have a huge variety of choices. But that’s to be expected for a hotel property in the outskirts of Bangkok. You’ll have the usual Thai fare like rice soup, fried rice and some sort of noodle dish. And for Western fare there’s eggs cooked to order, ham and sausage. Plus a choice of breakfast cereal and breads to toast.
If you’re on a beach then you better have seafood. And they do have that on the menu. All of their seafoods are cooked the traditional Thai way. There’s no real Western menu at Maldive Beach Resort except for some steaks. But the seafood dinner we had was tasty and very delicious with reasonable prices.
The Takeaway
I’ve been in Thailand for nearly a decade and as much as I’ve traveled around the country I am still impressed after all these years to find such incredible beaches and beautiful scenery. And, it’s quite fun to come across simple yet nice hotels such as the Maldive Beach Resort.

It’s not a fancy hotel by all means. There are no elevators but the hotel complex is only 3 floors. There’s no concierge but there’s daily room cleaning of course. It’s not easy to get to. You’ll need to hire a driver or just self drive.

But Maldive Beach is the type of place where you can book a room for an entire week and just chill out on site right in front of Chao Lao Beach.
