Where to Stay in Hua Hin Beach for the First Time in Thailand

Where to Stay in Hua Hin Beach for the First Time in Thailand

BEST HUA HIN BEACH HOTELS FOR FIRST TIME VISITORS

Need help with finding the best Hua Hin beach hotels in Thailand? I have just the right hotels by the beach you’re looking for. Including my personal reviews and cost.

Hua Hin may not be as developed as Bangkok but it does afford many tourists comforts such as good quality hotels by the beach with reasonable rates. It’s a city well known for a much more laid back atmosphere. A clean beach and most of all delicious and affordable seafood.

But if you don’t mind walking just a short distance to Hua Hin beach you can certainly locate cheaper accommodations. However if you’re coming from afar, why not pick a hotel in Hua Hin that is close to the beach.

You’d be surprised how affordable beachside hotels in Hua Hin are.

I’ll even reveal my “Top 5 Hua Hin Hotels by the Beach” so you can make a better decision on where you want to stay.

But before I get into that, here are the best reasons why I think you should stay at a hotel right on Hua Hin’s pristine beach.

5 Reasons Why You Should Stay at a Hotel Near Hua Hin Beach

  1. Hua Hin’s beach lines the central section of the city. By choosing a hotel by the beach area you can easily visit nearby attractions in Hua Hin such as their famous night bazaar.
  2. For a small city, Hua Hin has a pretty big traffic problem. With very few pedestrian crosswalks in between. By staying at a hotel right on Hua Hin beach you don’t need to worry about crossing and waiting for long traffic lights.
  3. Lots of hotels on Hua Hin Beach provide free shuttle service for guests to travel to nearby attractions such as the Cicada Market, Bluport Mall, and other points of interest near the hotels. So no need to rely on your own transportation or pay for tuk-tuks that charge 150THB one way.
  4. Even though there are many international 5-star hotels located right on Hua Hin beach you don’t need to spend big money. There are many very affordable hotels right next to the mega hotels that share the same beach. If you can afford the big-name hotels then go for it. You won’t regret it.
  5. Hua Hin beach is on the eastern seaboard so you’ll be able to enjoy a beautiful sunrise in the morning. Which is the best reason of all in my book to stay right on the beach!

I Highly Recommend Staying at a Hotel on Hua Hin Beach Between Hua Hin Night Market and Cicada Market

Hua Hin has a long stretch of sandy beach with many hotels right on the beachfront, from 5 stars to cozy boutique hotels.

The best area of the beach with hotels is between Hua Hin Night Market down to Khao Takiab (เขาตะเกียบ) translated as Chopstick Hill. Though Monkey Hill would be a more proper name as the area is full of cheeky monkeys that will rummage through your bags if given the chance.

But a few of the hotels on my top 5 Hua Hin beach hotels are just slightly outside of that particular area. Not by much though.

Matter of fact, one of my favorite hotels in Hua Hin by the beach and very close to Khao Takiab is number one on my list. It’s one of the best hotels in Hua Hin and is recommended for your first visit.

So here we go!

My Top 5 Favorite Hotel on Hua Hin Beach

1. Amari Hua Hin – 4 Star Hotel

Address: 117/74 Takiab Road, Nongkae,, Khao Takiab, Hua Hin / Cha-am, Thailand

I’ve always been a fan of Amari-branded hotels and never had any problems at any of their properties. So when I found out there’s an Amari hotel property in Hua Hin by the beach I was excited to stay there. Granted it’s a bit of a walk to the beach. But they have a free shuttle car to take hotel guests there and back.

Amari Hua Hin Hotel Property
The Amari Hua Hin Hotel on Khao Takiab Beach

Technically the Amari Hua Hin is on Khao Takiab which is the southern end of Hua Hin Beach. They even have an awesome clubhouse by the beach where you can order drinks, and food and just chill out by the swimming pool overlooking the ocean.

When I stay at the Amari Hua Hin I usually book their Deluxe Pool View King room. It’s spacious and clean. I particularly like the view of the awesome massive swimming pool in the center of the hotel property. You can get a deluxe room with a view of the pool for around 3000THB per night with taxes.

2. Escape Hotel – 3 Star Hotel

Address: 25/2 Petchkasem Road, Hua Hin City Center, Hua Hin / Cha-am, Thailand

Affordable large rooms with a great ambiance. I did a review of Escape Hotel Hua Hin a few years back. I’ve been back there a few times ever since, especially when they have price drops on their hotel rooms during low seasons which is a great bargain.

Swimming pool view of Escape Hotel Hua Hin

The Escape is still one of the nicest hotels with a short walking distance to the beach and highly recommended. When I’m there I usually book the double rooms on the second floor for 3000THB per night. It’s a great bargain.

There’s even a free shuttle to take you down to Hua Hin’s night market. And they’ll even pick you up for a free return trip at a designated time. The Escape is one of the best affordable beach hotels in Hua Hin I highly recommend it.

3. Ibis Hua Hin – 3 Star Hotel

Address: 25/2 Petchkasem Road, Hua Hin City Center, Hua Hin / Cha-am, Thailand

If you like pets or you’re traveling with your furry friends, the Ibis Hotel Hua Hin is the best pet-friendly hotel by the beach. Whenever my wife and I travel to Hua Hin with one of our cats we always prefer staying at the Ibis Hua Hin.

There are not many hotels on the beach in Hua Hin that allow pets. Thankfully Ibis is one hotel that does.

Granted their rooms are the smallest out of the five hotels reviewed here. But it’s very clean and the property throughout is well maintained.

However I want to add if you’re given the option to purchase breakfast I recommend passing it. I don’t think it’s an added value. There are many places to eat near the hotel within a short walk.

4. Hilton Hua Hin Resort and Spa – 5-Star Hotel

Address: 33 Naresdamri Road, Hua Hin Beachfront, Hua Hin / Cha-am, Thailand

With the Hilton brand name, you’ll know this will be one of the best beach hotels in Hua Hin. This 5-star resort is practically right on the beach. The beach is 90 meters from the hotel but with their amazing swimming pool, it’ll be hard to decide if you’ll want to stay by the pool or swim in the ocean.

The Hilton Hua Hin is not cheap. But not expensive either by international standards. Their King Classic Ocean view rooms are only 4000THB per night with taxes. That’s a real bargain for a 5-star hotel in the center of Hua Hin’s beach.

5. Avani Hua Hin Resort and Village – 4 Star Hotel

Address: 1499 Petchkasem Rd. Cha-am, Hua Hin Beachfront, Hua Hin / Cha-am, Thailand

The Avani Hua Hin is another awesome hotel by the beach in Hua Hin. Again, the swimming pool at this resort’s main attraction. I’ve spent many days just soaking in the pool. Some really fun memories.

Yet this is another hotel by the beach only 90 meters from the hotel and affordable too. For 3000THB per night with taxes I’ve stayed in the Avani Deluxe Room.

The Avani Hua Hin is practically one of the newest hotels in central Hua Hin, built-in 2016. I especially recommend this hotel if you’re traveling with children. Your kids will love the swimming pool and the fun kid’s club on premises.

Conclusion

These are the best beach hotels to stay in Hua Hin for the very first time. And if you consider the prices are quite affordable too, especially 5-star hotels like the Hilton Hua Hin. And if you’re on a budget you should consider staying at the Escape Hotel Hua Hin.

But whichever hotel you choose on this list I’m sure you’re going to enjoy your holiday in Hua Hin for your very first special visit.

The Cicada Market Hua Hin

The Cicada Market Hua Hin

The Cicada Market – A Place You’ll Enjoy Even When You Hate Shopping…

But that’s just me. I’m a big grump when it comes to shopping. However I do love taking a stroll through any of Thailand’s famous night markets like Bangkok’s Talad Liab Duan. And certainly around Hua Hin’s Cicada Market. Which technically isn’t a night market. But who am I to disagree.

Now there really isn’t that much to do in Hua Hin (in my most humble opinion). So checking out Cicada Market at night is most likely on your to do list. It’s a highly recommended must visit in Hua Hin by travelers on tripadvisor.com.

My wife and I always make it our mission to visit Cicada Market every time we stay several nights in Hua Hin. Because it truly is a lovely market to stroll around even when you don’t plan on buying anything.

The best thing I enjoy about Cicada Market is eating all the street food I can get my grubby hands on.

When the weather is cool in Hua Hin, Cicada Night Market is a pleasure to walk around...

When the weather is cool in Hua Hin, Cicada Market is a pleasure to walk around at night…

Cicada Market’s Location and Hours

This popular Thai night market by the sea is just south of Hua Hin’s city center. About 4.11 kilometers from the city’s equally famous Hua Hin Night Market.

There are many budget, mid and high end hotels in Hua Hin. I’ve stayed in many of them. If you’ve never visited Hua Hin before and this is will be your first visit, be sure to book a hotel near Hua Hin’s beach because it’s a lot more affordable then you’d think.

Here are some hotels I reviewed near Cicada Market:

  1. The Escape Hotel  (3 stars)- This hotel offers guests complimentary scheduled shuttle service to the market.
  2. Ibis Hua Hin (2 stars and pet friendly) – 5 minute walk to Cicada Market.
  3. Amari Hua Hin (4 stars)- 2 minute walk to Cicada Market.

Cicada Market’s operating days/hours are from Friday to Sunday, from 4pm to 11pm (cicadamarket.com).

Please note on Sunday the market closes 1 hour earlier at 10pm. Hua Hin Night Market closes at 1am.

The fact that they’re not open past midnight to me hardly qualifies it as a night market. Because it’s not. Everyone has been calling Cicada Market a night market.

Even Cicada Market organizers don’t refer to themselves as a night market.

Though I have to admit, the market looks beautiful at night with all the cool incandescent lights placed through out the market. It’s a real shame they can’t stay open longer.

There is also a small amphitheater where plays and even stand up comics can be enjoyed. I haven’t purchased a ticket to catch a show inside so I can’t provide too much information on that.

What to Buy in Cicada Market

You’re going to see a common theme while strolling around. And that theme is art. Cicada Market is the kind of place where local Thai artists gather. Whether they be amateurs or professionals they come to showcase and perhaps make a bit of cash selling their art creations.

All kinds of modern art paintings are sold from contemporary to modern. Art lovers will certainly appreciate Cicada Market even more.

In the center of Cicada Market are a few small buildings that double as art exhibitions showcasing local art talent.

I came across this artists creating glass-blown art at Cicada Market...

You’ll also find handmade arts and crafts. Many are run by young enterprising Thai entrepreneurs. Need a bedazzled iPhone case? You’ll find it there. T-Shirts with unique graphic designs? You bet, you’ll see it there.

Amongst the arts and crafts is a family I came across making glass-blown figurines of animals. They can create a lot of animals with glass like giraffes, elephants, tigers and even all types of fish, right on site.

This guy is a master craftsman of glass figurines. His son is learning the art too...

And you can watch the process from start to finish. And it involves a blow torch. In my opinion nothing else is more entertaining then watching a guy wielding a blow torch to work at night. The glass figurines they create are also very affordable and a wonderful souvenir to take home.

A caricature souvenir of yourself. Check. Many artists are available to paint a caricature of you starting at 300THB, depending on the size of the portrait. That’s a reasonable price. Plus you’ll be helping to feed a starving artist. Speaking about food…

The Food at the Cicada Market

When is it never about food?

Any self respecting market anywhere in the world has got to have an area where people can sit back and enjoy a meal.

I know there are people not keen on eating Thai food because they’re worried about consuming spicy foods. And we all know children are fickle eaters when they don’t recognize a food.

Cicada Market has a smorgasbord of international food selection. Don’t be surprised if you see Italian pizzas and pasta stalls selling next to a stall with American BBQ pork ribs and steaks. Even sushi is available. Halal food is also well represented.

There is a food court with an impressive array of Thai food to recognizable Western foods...

There is a food court with an impressive array of Thai food to recognizable Western foods…

Cicada Market has quite a vast assortment of offerings. And because you’re in Hua Hin seafood is the specialty.

But I would skip the seafood inside Cicada Market because even though I know it’s fresh it’ll be more expensive. I know of a really good seafood restaurant right across from Cicada Market that I highly recommend. I’ll write a post on that restaurant really soon.

But if you find the seafood prices reasonable for your budget then go ahead and enjoy your seafood feast. Giant grilled prawns are available and sold by the kilo. A cook grills the prawns over a bed of hot coals while you wait and enjoy a nice frosty beer.

Lots of grab and go food are sold. But there is a big area with tables and chairs to sit down and enjoy your meals...

I haven’t really tried all the food in Cicada Market because I already have a couple of favorites nearby. But it’s a good place to grab desserts as there is a decent variety.

During peak hours, about 7pm to 9pm Cicada Market’s food seating area is filled to capacity so finding a seat could be difficult.

But with a bit of patience and perseverance you’ll eventually get a table. Plus standing over a seated table while glaring at the current occupants that have finished eating usually helps.

The Atmosphere

Cicada Market is a fun place to just chill out. The atmosphere is non rushed and less crowded as other major bazaars and markets in Thailand, for example Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok.

And because the beach is nearby you get this nice ocean breeze during the evening.

This kid is quite amazing with what he can do with empty bottles of beer...

This kid is quite amazing with what he can do with empty bottles of beer…

In a way it’s one of the biggest attractions in Hua Hin. Which is why many hotels in Hua Hin with shuttle services offer rides to Cicada Market. And spending an evening wandering around there is a perfect way to end a night in Hua Hin.

Like I always say, Cicada Market has a great chilled vibe. It’s a great place for locals to hang out too. Even for local folks in Hua Hin there’s not much to do except coming to these places.

Many festivals take place on the grounds particularly during seasonal holidays like Songkran Thai New Years and especially Western New Years Eve for the big countdown.

Don’t Forget to Check Out Tamarind Market Too – It’s Right Next to Cicada Night

Tamarind Market opened right next to Cicada Market. It’s a totally separate and new to the “night” market scene in Hua Hin. It’s so called because of the location of the market is surrounded by tamarind trees.

However, because both are super close together I think most would think it’s Cicada Market the same. One big difference though is that there’s more local Thai food sold inside Tamarind Market.

Tamarind Market also opens a day extra and an hour earlier: Thursday – Sunday 5pm to 11pm

Cicada and Tamarind Market are both easily the best areas to spend 2 or 3 hours in Hua Hin.

Escape Hua Hin Hotel Review

Escape Hua Hin Hotel Review

I’m Going to Regret Reviewing the Escape Hua Hin Hotel…

Why? Because there’s a chance there will be more people looking to book this hotel and I won’t be able to get a room. That’s how much I like the Escape Hua Hin. But regardless, here I go.

Hua Hin is one of my favorite city by the beach in Thailand. It’s one of the places I make a pit stop to the scenic and majestic mountains of Khao Sam Roi Yod.

To rest for a night or two before driving further south my wife and I enjoy staying at the 3 star Escape Hua Hin on 25/2 Phetchkasem Road, right in Hua Hin’s city center.

I usually stay over a few nights in Hua Hin whenever we drive down to Khao Sam Roi Yod...

I usually stay over a few nights in Hua Hin whenever we drive down to Khao Sam Roi Yod…

This popular yet relatively unknown hotel is overshadowed by the 5 star Intercontinental Hua Hin Resort looming beside it.

I’ve been staying at the Escape Hua Hin frequently for years. And it was renovated about 5 years ago after it was bought by Sansiri, a popular Thai property conglomerate.

Not Exactly on the Beach – But Close Enough

In general, the closer the hotels are to Hua Hin’s sandy beach, the more money the hotels and resorts will cost. The Escape Hotel is a short 200 meter stroll to the beach.

Which means Escape’s rates won’t be cheap. Though it’s not considered expensive either. But guests can expect a satisfactory 3 star hotel experience. I certainly did every time I stayed there.

Hua Hin Beach

Hua Hin’s beach is quite long. The Escape Hua Hin puts you right in the middle of the beach which is much quieter…

Nearby Attractions from Escape Hua Hin Hotel

Escape Hua Hin is situated right by the main road of Phetchkasem in central Hua Hin. So it is very easy to find.

Yet the buildings where guest rooms are situated are neatly tucked away from the noises of passing vehicles. If you want peace and quiet, you’re going to get it at the Escape Hotel.

The Escape Hua Hin Hotel

Escape Hotel Hua Hin property is not so big but still beautiful…

Matter of fact that’s exactly what I like the most about the Escape Hua Hin. It’s private with an exclusive feel without the price tag that’s associated with privacy. This hotel is small and cozy to boot. There are only 46 rooms split among five buildings with two floors each.

The Escape Hua Hin’s Room Review

There are two types of rooms to pick from. Deluxe and deluxe poolside. Deluxe rooms are on the second level and poolside is of course on the ground level where guests have easier access to the hotel’s wonderful little pool.

Deluxe rooms are roughly 31 square meters while poolside rooms are just slightly larger at 35 square meters.

The bathrooms are very spacious and take up roughly 1/3 of the entire room space.

There are these special little speakers by the bed side that pipe soothing and relaxing music. I left that music on at night and had the best sleep of my life.

The deluxe room bathrooms are spacious...

The deluxe room bathrooms are spacious…

Both room types are the same quality though each building has a different decor theme. And I have stayed in a few different rooms in different buildings and find that the rooms are very clean.

But what you’re going to like most, especially if you’re traveling with a group of friends is the large balcony seating space.

A lot of space to chill out and enjoy a wonderful night...

A lot of space to chill out and enjoy a wonderful night…

How Much Will it Cost?

When I first started staying at the Escape years ago it cost me about 2800THB a night including breakfast and taxes. Today, I see that the rates are about 4000THB per night including breakfast and taxes.

That kind of pricey considering you can get cheaper rooms elsewhere. However, you won’t get the same quality rooms.

My only gripe is the breakfast however. The offerings and variety are a bit weak. But to be fair to the hotel I typically stay during the low season. Which means less hotel guests.

Hua Hin Beach

You might think the Escape Hua Hin is pricey. But consider the location, cleanliness and convenience…

Which means maybe they don’t want to have too much food laying around with not enough guests to serve it to.

I also want to note that I usually stay on the second floor deluxe rooms. The first floor deluxe poolside rooms cost about 1000THB more. So if you pay 1000THB or so more you’ll get a room as same level as the pool.

To be quite honest staying on the second floor and saving that 1000THB and spending it instead on a nice seafood dinner is what I’d rather do.

Escape’s Complimentary Shuttle Service

My wife and I prefer to get around on our own with our car. But Hua Hin’s traffic is getting worst these days and good parking space could be hard to find.

The Escape Hua Hin provides a complimentary scheduled shuttle service to several nearby points of interest. Such as Hua Hin night market, Cicada night market and Market Village. I use their shuttle service to visit Hua Hin Night Market so I don’t have to find parking in that area.

Cicada Night Market in Hua Hin is a must to visit while you're in the area. It is open Friday thru Sunday from 4pm to midnight...

Cicada Night Market in Hua Hin is a must to visit while you’re in the area. It is open Friday thru Sunday from 4pm to midnight…

Otherwise, if I used a normal tuk tuk in Hua Hin I’d get charged 150THB one way. So I save a little bit of cash using the hotel’s personal shuttle service.

And the shuttle will also pick up customers at a pre-determined time and location. The shuttle is actually a 6 seater tuk tuk. So best to reserve some seats ahead of time at the hotel’s reception lobby.

The Final Word

For me, the Escape Hua Hin is totally worth the 4000THB price point. Part of the increase went into effect when Sansiri acquired the property years ago. Another part of the price increase is most likely due to the brand new Blúport Shopping Center opposite the Escape Hua Hin.

The hotel has just went up the scale in desirability because of the newest mall edition in Hua Hin’s city center. So the Escape is now considered prime real estate.

A trendy spacious lobby at the Escape Hua Hin...

A trendy spacious lobby at the Escape Hua Hin…

Which is a shame because that just means there could be more traffic near the Escape Hua Hin. But no matter. Even if the price is a little bit higher I still think it’s well worth it. Because the Escape is a very comfortable and clean hotel with an easy walk to a section of Hua Hin’s wonderful soft sandy beach.

The Hua Hin Escape Hotel is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in the city’s center. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

La A Natu Bed and Bakery Review

La A Natu Bed and Bakery Review

The Perfect Spot for a Wedding by the Beach. Private, Secluded and Magical…

La A Natu Bed and Bakery is the resort we always visit when when my wife and I need to get out of Bangkok and recharge. This super private resort is located in the middle of nowhere. But in a good way. Because of its secluded environment and privacy, my wife and I even took our wedding photos at La A Natu.

I mean literally it’s hard to find for most. But when you do find it you will be rewarded! La A Natu was definitely one of my favorite quiet beachside resorts to review!

Wouldn't you like to wake up to sunrise like that every morning!...

Wouldn’t you like to wake up to sunrise like that every morning!…

La A Natu Bed and Bakery Location

As you can see on the map La A Natu is far from many tourist attractions from Hua Hin. So it’s better to have your own set of wheels to get around.

But realistically if you want a resort to spend your honey moon or just a romantic getaway, La A Natu will most certainly impress your significant other.

La A Natu’s Rooms

There are only 10 rooms divided in 3 categories. Me and my wife we always choose their tropical village style villa. And each villa has a unique name. Matter of fact all of their accommodations have a unique name linked with nature.

The villa we always stay at is called Ta-khrai (Lemon-grass- ตะไคร้). And all three villas are facing the beach where you can lazily sit back and watch the sun rise in the morning.

There are 3 tropical village style villas...

There are 3 tropical village style villas. Ta-khrai (Lemon-grass- ตะไคร้) is right in the middle…

So far I think we’ve been in that same villa at least 5 times. The villa style is so cool and interesting and when you step inside you’ll feel instantly at home.

I normally pay around $150USD $200USD per night during low season. With that price tag we don’t stay too long. But even it’s a few days we were more than enough happy. And we normally book via Agoda.com as usual for the better rates.

La A Natu Bed and Bakery is not a super luxurious resort. However, it does have a 4 star price so they are not cheap. Though their rooms are certainly worth the money and compared to many other properties with expensive price tags a good choice for those looking for privacy and seclusion, but don’t want to pay through the nose for it.

A Beautiful Little Beach Right Outside

I really enjoyed walking out on the beach every morning. Since we usually stay at La A Natu during the weekdays there are very few guests. So I’m pretty much the only one out in the morning while my wife is still enjoying her peaceful sleep.

I can watch the fishing boats slowly coming back through an inlet bringing in fresh catches of squid and fish. Being in Bangkok most of the time with all the concrete, chaos and noise one can truly appreciate the feel of soft sand and the quiet sounds of ocean waves and nothing else. And the air is so clean.

There are no other hotels on the same strip of beach as La A Natu Bed And Bakery except for a few private houses.

The Breakfast…

What’s a morning without a good breakfast at a resort? And I do love to eat! Because La A Natu is such a small property with not too many guests it is understandable they don’t have a massive buffet spread. But what they do have is certainly sufficient and enough to satisfy hearty appetites.

La A Natu Also Serves Up Tasty Lunches And Dinners

This is one resort where you don’t even have to leave the property to get a good meal. However, I would recommend stopping by at a 7 Eleven or even a supermarket to load up on snacks and beers. Other than that, La A Natu’s prices for lunches and dinners are quite reasonable.

Not a Luxurious Resort but they Deserve 4 stars…

Only guests are allowed to roam around the resort property...

Only guests are allowed to roam around the resort property…

If you plan on staying at La A Natu Bed and Bakery one thing you can expect is privacy. Lots and lots of privacy. They are well known for their bakery and especially their afternoon tea set complete with delicious homemade cakes. So there are public visitors that come to the resorts restaurant just to sample their delights.

However, only guests with rooms at La A Natu are allowed to walk around and explore the rest of the resort grounds.

Thailand is littered with lovely tiny resorts by the beach. Where you can go and unwind to your hearts content with the sun shining down through coconut trees and fresh ocean breeze. La A Natu Bed and Bakery is our special little slice of heaven in Thailand.

Best Way to Get to La A Natu Bed and Bakery

The only way to get to La A Natu is by car. There are no forms of public transportation in the area at all. So you have to drive. Or you can always hire a driver to drop you off and pick you up when you check out.

La A Natu Bed and Bakery is about a 30 minute drive from Hua Hin City center. So if you’re coming in from Bangkok you can easily hire a taxi to take you there.

If you are self driving then getting there is very easy. And I do recommend driving. Because you can check out Sam Roi Yod, an area with many mountains, shrimp farms and beautiful landscapes.

la a natu bed and bakery map

Map from La A Natu Bed and Bakery

And if you drive up an down the coast you’ll be treated to even more private beaches. The roads leading to La A Natu are narrow but there are very little cars on the roads. And when you are nearby you will start seeing small little signs leading to the resort so keep a sharp eye out to avoid getting lost.

Things to Know Before Booking

La A Natu’s High Season and Low Season

  • High Season: October and January through May
  • Low Season: June through September and November to mid December
  • Peak Season: Mid December through early January and mid April

Because the resort has only 10 rooms divided into 3 categories you can bet high season and during long weekends you may have a hard time booking a room there. Prices will be a lot higher too during those times, especially peak season.

My wife and I usually stay during low season on weekdays. Rates are cheaper but still expensive compared to other 4 star hotels in Hua Hin city center.

Pa Prai Villa Plantation Hua Hin Review

Pa Prai Villa Plantation Hua Hin Review

Not Cheap and Far From Hua Hin

I know a lot of people who love Hua Hin but want to stay somewhere really quiet and out of the way. I’m not saying Hua Hin is noisy and congested like Bangkok because it’s not.

However, Pa Prai Villa at the Plantation is about a 35 minute drive from Hua Hin’s City Center. Which means if you choose to stay at Pa Prai you’re going to be surrounded by nature and lots of it. And it’s a decent option to stay there as jump point for a road trip to Khao Sam Roi Yod.

Pa Prai Villa is surrounded by a pineapple farm and hills...

Pa Prai Villa is surrounded by a pineapple farm and hills…

Pa Prai is located on top of a hill, overlooking a massive pineapple farm near the front of the property. You can see just a little bit of the ocean ahead plus more hills. Behind the property is another hill. There is nothing around Pa Prai Villa. No 7-Elevens or any kind of shops at all. It’s pretty much a desolate location save for a few private homes.

Swimming pool and ahead is small guests reception area...

Swimming pool and ahead is small guests reception area…

One big tip is if you choose to stay at Pa Prai Villa Plantation be sure to drop by convenience store and load up on snacks if you’ll be there for a little while.

Finding Pa Prai Villa can be a little difficult. There are signs along the road but not a lot. And if I wasn’t so familiar with the area I wouldn’t have found this place at all I think. As I mentioned this hotel is on top of a hill with partially paved roads.

When we did find the hotel there was a little slight difficulty getting in. There is a long narrow lane that leads down to the hotel reception area. We got halfway down and a pick up truck appeared right in front of us. It was a Mexican standoff as the other driver didn’t want to reverse and neither did I. Cooler heads prevailed and my wife just told me to back out.

I originally booked a deluxe room, but was upgraded to penthouse...

I originally booked a deluxe room, but was upgraded to penthouse…

When we parked it was apparent there was a wedding taking place that night. The pool area had flowers, chairs and tables placed all around. A woman who appeared to be a wedding planner was running around checking things and giving workers instructions.

The hotel grounds is not that big so it was interesting to see how all the wedding set up would turn out.

Usually a room upgrade is a good thing... usually...

Usually a room upgrade is a good thing… usually…

I had booked a deluxe room which flanked the swimming pool. But because there’s a wedding taking place during the night so they upgraded us to a penthouse.  All the deluxe rooms are located on the ground level where the wedding would take place. So it would be noisy and that’s the reason why we got upgraded to the second floor penthouse suites. Score! Sweeeettttttt! Yahoooooo! But no.

There are only two penthouses at the Pa Prai Villa and we were given the Moree Suites. We were stoked. When we were first shown the room our jaws dropped. It was a huge massive living room. The master bedroom was located upstair and when we looked it we were floored. It’s a beautiful spacious room.

But after checking out the toilet we noticed a very distinct funk. It smelled like a massive turd backup except there were no turd in the toilet. And the longer we stayed there the more foul the smell got. It was really bad and becoming unbearable.

So we told reception about the problem and they sent someone up to check it out. When the guy came he too noticed the problem. We told them we want to move and the hotel staff obliged without hesitation. They gave us keys to the other penthouse, the Kiri Suites.

Kiri Suites is a bit smaller than Moree but still big. Though the bedroom was much bigger and so was the bathroom with a full size jacuzzi. But that weird funk that was such a huge problem at Moree Suites was still present but not as bad. But we put up with it as best as we could and we knew the hotel staff felt sorry too.

My wife and I really appreciated the hotel staff, it’s not there fault and they did what they could to make up happy.

But there was still another problem. I decided to give the jacuzzi a try. I filled it up with hot water and tried to start the jacuzzi but no bubbles. The controls were pretty simple and straightforward. I felt like calling up downstairs and ask them if it worked or not but did not bother. I didn’t mind a nice soak in hot water anyway.

About 45 minutes later I got out and the tub started to drain the water. And sometime while watching television with my wife a huge pool of water ended up on the floor. As far as I could tell it came from the repair vent for the jacuzzi. So we called downstairs and a couple of guys came up to check it out. They took off the repair panel and the whole area underneath the jacuzzi was full of water.

So the guys gathered a bunch of towels and mopped up the water. That was it. There was nothing else they could do since it was night time. And I wasn’t planning on taking another dip anyway. Lucky my wife prefers showers.

But the wedding was starting and we could see it all from the balcony that overlooked the swimming pool area. It was a bit noisy and the festivities went on until about 1am but we weren’t complaining. It was nice to experience another happy couples wedding. After all we just got married earlier that same year.

After waking up in the morning it’s time to check out what’s for breakfast. I wasn’t surprise to see that Pa Prai Villa does not have a breakfast buffet setup. They don’t get a lot of guests and if they cooked up too much food it’ll probably end up in the trash.

Even with the big wedding party there were plenty of seats left for guests. I ordered their American breakfast set of scrambled eggs and bacon. And my wife ordered the Thai breakfast set which was rice porridge with pork. There’s also plenty of bread, cereal, granola, yogurt and fruit to go around too.

There’s nothing else around the area so if you’re not heading out it’s probably best to fill up. Though I do know Pa Prai has has a lunch menu. But to be honest, it’s probably best to simply drive out and find a restaurant. There are many near the beach about a 20 minute drive away.

The Good and The Bad

What I like about Pa Prai Villa is it’s really private and secluded. Needless to say, you need to have a car. Or I suppose if you choose to stay there you can have a driver drop you off and pick you back up when you check out. There are many private car services for hire in Hua Hin.

And the bad… well, it’s secluded. There is nothing else in the immediate area but sand, rocks and a dirt road. I walked around a bit to take a look and saw nothing of interest. I know when people think of Hua Hin they think of beaches. So if that’s what you want Pa Prai isn’t the place you’d want to stay.

Another negative about Pa Prai is I believe it’s overpriced. They charge more then a hotel right in Hua Hin’s city center charges. I paid about $80USD for a deluxe room. However, while doing some current price checking for this post I noticed they have 50% discounts. $40USD sounds about right for their deluxe rooms

There are Pool Villa’s on the property too. My wife and I saw them going through the driveway. I took a quick glance and saw that the villa’s had private small private swimming pools. There are about 8 or so villas.

If we ever do decide to stay at Pa Prai again in the in the future I’ll probably book the 1 bedroom pool villas as long as I can find a good deal.
